| Welcome to VINTAGE TUBE
My hobby site featuring a collection of vintage tube audio, some of the finest and some of the most sought after tube amps and vintage audio accessories. Classic tube amplifiers like McIntosh MC-240, McIntosh 225, Dynaco ST-70 or some HH Scott amps, unlikely tube amps like a Knight mono block in mint condition or a rare pair of Western Electric IPC AM-1001 , licensed for use in connection with the exhibition of motion pictures only by RCA for sound and motion pictures reproduction in places other than the home. Sherwood s-360. JBL Hartsfield horns and compression drivers, including acoustic lens. Many in mint condition. Some units are used as a guitar amplifier and some where made from tube amp kits, dynaco for example did this a lot which gave us the resulting Dynaco ST-70 stereo tube amplifier 35 watts per side.
Point to point wiring is by far my favorite tube amplifier design. These seemingly simple circuits bring out the sound of tube like transistors cannot do - an arguable point I might add. The audio purists will tell you there is no better sound than tube amplifiers - and I totally agree.
Altec Lansing, RCA, McIntosh, Western Electric, H.H. Scott, Dynaco, Grommes and many other "household names" in the tube industry, perfected these amps many many years ago. I say "perfected" but with what technology was available at the time. Now we have sonically better caps etc, which offer an improvement to tube power amplifier output .
Unknown acronyms which have become familiar company names like "Radio Corporation of America " RCA" or Allied Radio, which made Knight tube amplifiers, Precision Electronics, which made Grommes, and many more, made the audiophile amps "of the day" which are being coveted now over transistorized equivalents.
A lost art is in a re-awakening state as tube amp kits and tube power amp restoration are being revived, modernized and re-issued. The tube amplifier is making [ made ] a remarkable come back to those in the know!
Another area of retro interest is turntables. Going back to vinyl is a natural part of tube amplifier restoration and collection. Currently in the collection are Thorens, Marantz and Dual turntables
